Santorini is a Greek island located in the southern Aegean Sea. Many know it as the site of the largest volcanic eruption in history, but beyond that it offers beautiful scenery and many activities to enjoy.
Since the economy is based on tourism, there is something new and interesting to discover at every corner.
The structure of the houses here is really amazing. The white Cycladic houses, the churches with blue domes and the beautiful hills covered with windmills form an absolutely stunning backdrop for your visit. With all that romance and beauty, you will feel like you are in a dream.
If just walking around and soaking up the beauty of this island is enough, activities such as visiting ancient sites, eating Greek food and visiting the beaches will round off your day in paradise perfectly.

1. The lost city of Atlantis at Akrotiri

The story of the lost city of Atlantis is one of the most popular myths in the world. There are several films, books and works of art that play with this fascinating story.
It is interesting to note that many believe that the lost city of Atlantis, originally named by the philosopher Plato, is the prehistoric city of Akrotiri. When in the 16th. When a volcano erupted in the 19th century, the island was covered in ash – with few remains to be found.
Of course, the island is now known as Santorini, but it’s fascinating to see the remains of what could very well be an ancient myth come to life.
2. Rainbow Beach
One of the most interesting aspects of Santorini’s beaches is that they all have different colors of sand. Some have black volcanic sand, others bright scarlet sand (e.g. the bay Kokkini Ammos).
The black sand beach, Perivolos, attracts a younger crowd with its many bars and parties. The other black sand beaches are much quieter and more peaceful.
Besides the beaches, you will also find several hot springs!

After the volcanic eruption, the only plants that survived were the vines.
You will come across many vineyards, but the most interesting is the ancient vineyard, which dates back to 1200 BC. Chr. produced wine. Speaking of old wine, am I right? All kidding aside, the wine here is absolutely incredible.
There are 10 wineries in Santorini. Some of the best:
- The Butari vineyard, which is located near the village of Megalochori.
- Art Space, which produces dessert wines.
- Gaia Vina, which is built right on the beach.
- Wine Santo, which offers a beautiful view from its vantage point on the cliff.

There are still active volcanoes around Santorini, so it’s not just something from the past. Two of the islands in the caldera, Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni, are still active and erupt from time to time.
If you dream of seeing the volcano in all its power, you should go to the port of Fira and get on one of the excursion boats.
