The Alaia Belize , Autograph Collection is now the only luxury hotel in the Central American country, and at least temporarily, the only Marriott resort in the country. Located on the Caribbean Coast, the property features a 42,000-square-foot, coral-colored main building with two wings connected by a breezeway, a restaurant, a spa and fitness center, a freshwater pool, and guest rooms.
This is the first time that Marriott International has opened a property in the Central American country, and Belize is known for its historic architecture and diverse wildlife. Situated along the shore of Belize’s largest lagoon, the resort features 104 guest rooms, including 57 suites, a poolside bar, multiple restaurants and a beach club. It will also feature a marina, an 18-hole golf course, and a world-class spa.
WHY? The Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection Hotel is not only the first Marriott hotel in the Central American and Caribbean country of Belize, but it also sets the bar for luxury hospitality in the region. The first true four-diamond resort on Ambergris Caye. The design and aesthetics of the hotel encourage guests to become one with the natural environment through their five senses. – Lori Baratti, editorial assistant.
Owner and developer Andrew Ashcroft, in partnership with Autograph Collection Hotels, announces the opening of the highly anticipated luxury resort Alaya Belize. Alaia Belize is a 155-room resort that sprawls over 20 acres and is the first in San Pedro Town with over 1,000 feet of coastline. This is the first true four-star resort on Ambergris Caye. The eco-hotel will be the first Marriott International property in the country to meet the brand’s high quality standards and dynamic features of the Autograph Collection, which honors the founder’s passion, thoughtful design, inherent craftsmanship and connection to the region.
Having deep family roots in Belize and living there for over 20 years, I wanted Alaia Belize to exude the vibrant spirit, genuine hospitality and friendliness of the country and its people. My team and I have been working closely with the Marriott International team to bring this to life and offer our future guests and owners the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Belizean culture, said Andrew Ashcroft. No detail went unnoticed, as we wanted travelers to experience a new level of luxury in one of the world’s most photogenic yet unexplored destinations. We are now ready to show the world all that Alaia Belize has to offer and invite our guests to explore Belize.
The aesthetics of eco-luxury
The Alia Belize Hotel is located in the historic town of San Pedro, nicknamed La Isla Bonita after Madonna’s 1987 song about the island. Alia Belize Hotel will enable hotel guests and owners to closely connect with their surroundings as it is designed to stimulate all five senses. Designed by renowned Brazilian designer Deborah Aguiar, the interiors of the boutique hotel invite touch, respite and contact with Mother Nature through warm and harmonious atmospheres, woven textures, natural fibres and a touch of greenery. This design-inspired hotel has 155 rooms and suites ranging from one to three bedrooms, decorated in a palette of natural colours that complement the breathtaking ocean views. The rooms are a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor space, with an average of 1,200 square feet of indoor space and nearly 900 square feet of outdoor space per unit.
The Alaia Belize residential community comprises 71 elegant studio, two and three bedroom apartments and eight beachfront villas. Owners who are not permanent residents of Belize can include their condominiums or villas in a rental program that can be booked through Marriott International’s reservation system, allowing guests to stay amidst the deep blue waters. The exterior design, created by International Environments, includes vertical green walls, custom textured walls and crystal clear glass windows with uninterrupted views of the tranquil Caribbean Sea and wild tropical vegetation.

A unique experience
The resort sets a new standard for luxury in Belize. Guests and owners have full access to the best amenities in the country, including Belize’s first floating pool and rooftop lounge with 360-degree views, as well as Belize’s only luxury resort with a dive shop where guests can get their PADI certification on site, K’in Spa and Wellness Center, Piano Bar with a grand piano, Kids Club, Adventure Concierge, pools with live DJs, golf carts and bicycles.
Designed for the gourmet traveler, Alaia Belize will offer endless dining and bar options with five different concepts. For those who want to enjoy the tropical climate and stunning 360-degree views of the Caribbean Sea, there will be a Vista Rooftop Restaurant at Alaia serving small dishes such as sushi, poke bowls and clams for lunch, dinner and late night. The beachfront hotel will also have The Deck and Beach Bar restaurant for those who want to dine on the open beach with local favorites like tacos, ceviche, burgers, fish sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizzas and classic cocktails. Alaia Belize will also have a piano bar that will provide a chic lounge setting for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night, with small pastries, cocktail snacks and premium wines and cocktails prepared by Alaia’s mixologist. Finally, the Terrace Bar offers tasty dishes like burgers, sandwiches, salads, ceviche and more for lunch and dinner. In true Belizean party tradition, this area of the hotel will feature DJs and poolside cabanas for VIP services.
An incredible goal
My team and I had the opportunity to speak with Andrew Ashcroft at Alaia Belize earlier this year when the property was still under construction. I am thrilled that the day has finally come to open the doors of this beautiful four-diamond resort on Ambergris Caye. This is an important milestone for the team and the country as it is a testament to our growth as luxury brands like Autograph Collection by Marriott International come to Belize and enhance our tourism scene, said the Honorable Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations of Belize. The government is fully behind hotel development and heritage projects such as the Alaia Belize, and we are incredibly proud of all the positive steps the Belize tourism industry is taking to restore our international customers’ confidence in travel.
In October 2020, Belize officially reopened the Philip Goldson International Airport to international visitors for tourist traffic. In January 2021, Belize entered the fourth phase of its tourism revitalization plan by fully opening up overnight tourism and allowing visitors to move freely within the country. In December 2020, Belize received the Safe Travel Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in recognition of the country’s improved health and safety protocols. To maintain certification, the Belize Tourism Board has implemented the Tourism Gold Standard program to ensure that all hotels, restaurants and tour operators adapt and maintain their health and safety policies, including hygiene practices, social interactions and standard operating procedures, while minimizing the impact on the guest experience.
Belize is known as the hidden gem of Central America and the Caribbean. The clear blue waters and Caribbean culture offer endless historical opportunities, diverse adventures and a melting pot of cultures. For those wishing to dive deeper and discover the beauty of Belize’s natural underwater world, Alaia is 600 meters from the world’s second largest barrier reef and approximately 80 km from the incomparable world-class Great Blue Hole. Within a few hours of Alaia, owners and visitors can explore more than 200 caves with several preserved Mayan temples, including Xunantunich (the second tallest ruin in the country), lush jungle, rainforest canopy, and archaeological sites such as the Aktun Tunichil Muknal cave.
Ambergris Caye and Alaia Belize can be reached via Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize City by taking a 15-minute flight to San Pedro Airport or by booking a water taxi. The concierge of Alaia Belize is available to assist all guests with travel arrangements.
A destination for all travelers and all generations, Alaia Belize is offering an unbeatable deal with special rates for the Vista Studio King room starting at $299.
