Luxury cruise line Azamara has announced the name and delivery of its fourth cruise ship.
The former cruise ship Pacific Princess was sold to Azamara in January 2021 and renamed Azamara Forward. The official handover of the ship to the new cruise line took place on the 15th. March 2021.
The event coincides with Azamara’s transition to an independent cruise line. It is now officially owned by private equity firm Sycamore Partners and is the company’s only travel brand. The company was previously part of the Royal Caribbean Group, along with Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises.
Today marks a new beginning for Azamara as we expand our capacity and begin our journey as an independent cruise line. Our beautiful new ship can call at smaller ports and allows us to take our customers to even more destinations, said Carol Cabezas, President of Azamara.
When choosing a unique name, we realized that our fourth ship is the beginning of a new adventure, and we chose a name that celebrates a bright future for the brand, our guests, and the industry as a whole.
Azamara chose the name Azamara Forward because the word forward means moving forward in space or time. It is intended to evoke a sense of resilience, positivity and opportunity for the future in people.
Azamara has a bright future and can continue to grow as an independent company, said Orlando Ashford, chairman of Azamara’s board of directors. We look forward to welcoming back our loyal clients and those new to the brand with our expanded fleet offering more programs and unique dive itineraries at Destination Immersion.
The Azamara Forward will join Azamara’s existing fleet of three ships: Azamara Pursuit, Azamara Journey, and Azamara Quest. The recently acquired ship, currently anchored off Rome in Civitavecchia, will undergo a major refit in line with the Azamara brand. It’s unclear if the refit will change the number of cabins on the ship, but when it traveled for Princess, the ship could only accommodate 688 passengers in double occupancy, which is why Azamara believes it fits perfectly into its small fleet lineup.
Azamara Forward plans to begin its first season in Europe in 2022.
