Christine Duffy’s message already painted a pretty clear picture, but Carnival Cruise Line has also changed its payment and cancellation policies.
In an email to customers and travel agents, the cruise line said it has made no changes to its cruise schedule for June 2021. The cruise line intends to sail only from U.S. ports and, as the president said, will not move its ships to other ports to circumvent the CDC and its safe harbor arrangement.
However, Carnival Cruise Line has changed its cancellation and payment policies to give guests more freedom to change or keep their reservations.
So while competitors were moving their ships to new ports in the Caribbean and Europe, Carnival firmly believed that US progress on the pandemic would pay off.
Of course, that’s not to say that customers won’t want to sail and know if Carnival will cancel their cruises in June.
At this point, the cruise line offers customers several ways to deal with the situation for added peace of mind. For starters, the cruise line is offering its customers an extended payment period for all sailings through June 2021. This means that final payments must now be made by June 30. April 2021 should be complete.

While it seems like a long time before the cruise line makes a decision, the email says they will make a decision by then. This is just to give those who have not yet made a final payment a chance to see what will happen in the coming weeks.
If guests want to keep their reservations active, they must do so by the 30th. April is not taking any action. Customers who wish to cancel their reservation due to uncertainty have several options.

Carnival said the earlier cancellation proposals are still in effect and customers can still cancel routes for June 2021 without penalty. However, if the guest follows the itinerary and the ship departs, the guest is entitled to a credit of $100 per cabin. Cruise Line calls this a customer retention rate.
If a guest wishes to cancel their cruise and does so before the 30th day of the cruise, they must do so in writing. If the guest cancels before the 30th day of the cruise, they will receive a full refund, including reimbursement for any additional purchases such as taxes, gratuities, beverage and WIFI packages, etc.
Let’s assume the customer chooses this option and no future cruise credit (FCC) or OBC is applied to the trip and the trip is ultimately cancelled. In this case, they are not entitled to overbooking offers for customers who stayed during the trip.

If guests have booked a flight with CFC, they will receive a refund of the amount paid through CFC. The FCC will remain in effect as any OBC as long as the next flight is before September 30, 2021, for any flight booked before September 30, 2021. April 2023.
Carnival Cruise Line requests that guests with additional questions about their trip and reservations contact a Carnival travel agent or personal vacation planner.
The cruise line’s announcement comes after its president, Christine Duffy, said in a video message to customers and travel agents this week that the company has no plans to change its departure locations or move its ships to Caribbean or other ports at this time :
At Carnival Cruise Line, we have no current plans to move our ships out of their U.S. ports. I have always said that Carnival Cruise Line is an American cruise line. We sail from 14 U.S. home ports, 50% of our itineraries are less than 7 days in length, and a significant number of our customers vacation on a Carnival cruise.
While Royal Caribbean has decided to change its itineraries and sail from its new home ports, and Norwegian Cruise Line has now cancelled sailings on several ships due to a possible move, it seems that Carnival customers can expect to stay with their US home ports. Something Florida Governor DeSantis would certainly appreciate.
