Carnival Cruise Line has provided guests and travel agents with updated options for 8- to 14-day voyages, which have been removed for new bookings, in accordance with the CDC General Conditions of Travel.
New options for long distances
The cruise line sent out a message to customers and travel agents about its options for longer cruises. As you probably already know, the Carnival would sail in seven days, from November 2020 to October 31, 2021.
At that time, the cruise line Cruise Hive announced: “At this time, we have closed for sale all cruises of 8 days or more departing from the United States. We have taken no further action on these cruises and will notify customers and travel agents once we have made a decision on these itineraries.” It is now time to announce more details.
The new options are valid for 8-day itineraries through October 31, 2021, and also apply to 10- and 14-day cruises for the Carnival Sensation and Pride.
In a letter to guests by Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line:
As you know, the return of cruise operations to the United States is still uncertain. We remain committed to finding a solution for your cruise and providing you with return options as soon as possible. However, we want to offer you several options so you can choose what best suits you and your vacation plans.
The letter describes two options. Option 1 allows customers to hold their reservations at the boarding gate while the cruise line continues to explore options for longer trips. Guests will automatically receive a $100 onboard credit if the cruise is still in progress.
If this cruise is eventually cancelled and customers have not yet received an upgrade offer, they can instead take advantage of the benefits available to other customers on other cruises during the suspension. This is a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) equal to the amount paid at the time of booking, plus the $600 cabin onboard credit, provided your FCC is used for a reservation made before September 30, 2021 to sail on a sailboat that sails before April 30, 2023.
Guests do not have to do anything if they choose option 1, and Carnival will keep them informed.
For Option 2, customers may cancel at any time before March 31, 2021 and receive a full refund. Future cruise credits and on-board balances, if any, may be retained provided the next cruise is booked before September 30, 2021, for a cruise ending April 30, 2023.
Carnival’s letter also states that if the cruise is ultimately canceled and the reservation has no future cruise credit, customers will not be able to take advantage of the rebooking offer made to customers who remain on the boat.

Is no longer unknown
Many Carnival guests were disappointed by the lack of details about future long cruises. Now that long cruises have been removed from the website, guests were concerned about how this would affect their bookings.
The cruise line has now made steady progress and customers can finally form an opinion for the first time since news of the removal of the long sails broke.
Many other cruise lines, including Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Line, have also cancelled itineraries of 8 days or more. The reason for the delay is actually the lack of detailed information about the cruise itinerary provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
