After the cruise line announced its plans to reopen the ships in August and the current status of the medical protocol, affected customers received a follow-up letter from President and CEO Christine Duffy, in addition to an update provided on the 7th. The month of June has been sent. The letter highlights several important points about the upcoming cruises, starting with the fact that the payment deadline, Monday, June 21. 2021, has been extended. So customers can wait and see how the Florida lawsuit against the CDC ends – a decision is expected this week – and Carnival can work on the recovery process and procedures. The letter states: We look forward to restoring summer, and I wanted to follow up on what we wrote last Thursday about our plans for your cruise. Things happen fast, and in our effort to share information with you in a timely manner, we know there are gaps that need to be filled. First: While we work on the restart process and our procedures for August, we are extending the final payment for your trip until Monday the 21st. June. Carnival has already announced that only fully vaccinated customers will be on flights in July. This includes Carnival Vista and Breeze in Galveston, Carnival Miracle in Seattle and Carnival Horizon in Port Miami. The same ships will operate vaccinated voyages through August, along with additional ships Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral, Carnival Sunrise from Miami and Carnival Panorama from Long Beach. Specific medical protocols have already been published for cruises from Texas on Carnival Vista and Breeze and for Alaska cruises from Seattle on Carnival Miracle. Carnival is working on this process and customers will know more soon. Duffy’s letter said: Because we operate under CDC guidelines, there is an exemption process for a small number of guests who cannot or should not be vaccinated (children under 12 and other exemptions required by federal law). The current standard for meeting the CDC’s criteria for a fully vaccinated cruise, where guests can sail without masks or other restrictions, is that at least 95% of all guests on board are fully vaccinated. In addition, Carnival Cruise Line states that a minimum number of passengers will not be fully vaccinated and that it will primarily use passengers 12 years of age or younger. The cruise line says it cannot make exceptions for guests until it knows who is leaving. This means that the cruise line must wait until all guests have made their final payment so that Carnival knows how many guests will actually take the cruise: We will send you details of the approval process and other minutes next week as they are finalised. The number of exceptions will be very small, mainly children under 12, and will be less than 5% of guests to account for no-shows and other operational problems. And we can’t start processing these exceptions until all final payments are received and we are sure of the total number of guests on board – so we can determine the number of exceptions. The situation continues to evolve as Carnival implements the requirements that are part of the CDC’s conditional sailing order. Carnival is currently on track to have 95 percent of passengers and crew fully vaccinated for flights in July and August only.
Carnival Cruise Line’s Executive Customer Satisfaction Survey results released last month showed that the majority of guests were very satisfied with their cruise experience. For example, 96.9 percent of guests said that they were very or fairly satisfied with their cruise food and beverage selections, with 62.7 percent saying they were extremely satisfied.
