There’s no better way to celebrate a milestone like the New Millennium than to enjoy a bit of celebrity culture. We’re walking into the Millennium Dome in Millennium Park, Chicago, where we’ll join a few hundred other tourists for a guided tour of the complex. We’re also going to enjoy a special evening dinner at the Millennium Restaurant, where we’ll be joined by some of Chicago’s finest celebs. After that, a few of us will be getting up early to catch the “Millennium Cruise”, a glass-bottomed boat that goes out onto the Great Lakes to watch the sunrise over the city. Breakfast, then an early departure for our flight back to the UK.
The third day on the Celebrity Millennium was a full day of sightseeing and eating. We started the morning at the Bellagio volcano display before touring the fountains and taking a boat to see the The Conservatory and its “Mole People”. The weather was beautiful and warm, which made the stroll around the Bellagio Fountain so much more pleasant. After lunch, we took in the musical show, “The Rat Pack at the Tropicana”, before heading to our hotel room.
While it was great to be back in the U.S., I found most of the time I spent in the Dominican Republic to be a bit frustrating. I had a blast in the DR, but the challenges of traveling with a large group made it hard for me to relax. As a result, I stayed away from my friends at every opportunity I could.. Here’s his account of the third day of his trip aboard the Celebrity Millennium, with details of the special lunch. As the Celebrity Millennium sails through the Caribbean this week, I am happily and methodically making my way (translation: devouring food) through the myriad of restaurants aboard the ship. Today I’m going to tell you about three great restaurants:Sushi on Five, a specialty restaurant open to all guests; Blu, , a restaurant for AquaClass guests, since I travel in an AquaClass balcony stateroom; and Luminae, a restaurant exclusively for the ship’s suite guests (but Celebrity Cruises brought our group here on our first cruise for a preview dinner one evening). Input for fluorescent lamps Okay, I guess you’re gonna ask: Where are the comments about the main dining room or cafe and their food stations? Don’t worry about it. I hear you. It’s bound to happen. In another post I’ll talk about Metropolitan, the main dining room, and Tuscan Grille (where I’m dining tonight), as well as Le Petit Chef, a dazzlingly stylish tech diner I enjoyed last night; it’s so much fun and super creative. In another post, dedicated to the ship’s hotel manager’s comments on how the cruise experience on board has changed from what guests remembered from before the pandemic, I take a closer look at the Oceanview CaféBuffet and its stations, as well as its performance from a process perspective. So that’s the plan. Let’s go eat.
Sushi for five persons
If someone looks for me on a Celebrity Millennium cruise in the Caribbean, chances are you’ll find me at Sushi on Five, an a la carte specialty restaurant. Yes, it’s on Deck 5! Yes, they serve sushi! But they offer much more. When I stopped there for lunch one port day, Sushi on Five was pretty empty, except for a couple at one table and two singles at two other tables. Pay attention: Celebrity is limiting the ship’s capacity on this cruise to less than 50%. So it was easy to become socially distant. Restaurant visitors (vaccinated and PCR tested) were not masked, but all restaurant staff/clerks were. Sushi for five A personal note? Since I’m more of a fan of other types of Asian food than sushi, I first went to the stage near the entrance and asked what else they had. The waiter quickly appeared behind the manager’s back and pulled out a menu to show me, proactively pointing out the different dishes. After looking at the menu, I went in and ordered four different dishes to try. I also immediately grabbed some chopsticks from the table to practice a bit (I was wondering if I could still use chopsticks that well after not using them for over a year! But alas, it quickly came back to me). Here’s a list of the products I ordered to try. The first one? The edamame is steamed and perfectly seasoned with a little Himalayan salt; price: 4 $. Edamame Other appetizers include Spicy Ahi Tuna (crumbled rice, wasabi aioli and jalapeño) for $7; Yellowfin Tuna with Truffles (shriracha, white truffle oil, ponzu, cilantro, pink peppercorns) for $9 ; Miso soup (sesame, tofu, wakame) $3; and Sashimi Mix Green Salad (sashimi of tuna, yellowtail and salmon, squid, shrimp, spring mix, crispy sesame and katsuo dashi dressing) $8. I also tried the chicken ginger gyoza (deep fried dumplings with sesame seeds, yuzu, scallions and ponzu) for $8. If you like stickers, this dish consists of six dumplings with melted chicken inside, accompanied by a dipping sauce. Ginger Chicken Gyoza My absolute favorite of all the tasting dishes ordered is ? Homemade lobster and crab wontons with sweet hoisin glaze and wakame salad. I highly recommend it. Homemade lobster and crab Wontons In the Hot Pot & Noodles category, you’ll also find tempura udon with shrimp (udon noodles, wakame, fish cakes with onions) for $11 or tonkotsu miso ramen (pork marinated in soy, bamboo shoots, onions and soft egg). However, I opted for the reliable lobster ramen (miso butter, lobster tail, green onions and dashi bisque) for $13. Lobster windows It’s a savory dish with lots of pasta and juicy pieces of lobster tail on top. It’s delicious, but the portion is so large that when I finished tasting it, I thought the plate was still full. I don’t know what couples would want to share, but there was plenty to do. As for the sandwiches, there are options like Tempura with Shrimp ($10), California Alaska ($10), Spicy Tempura with Tuna and Shrimp ($11), Dragon Eel ($11), Tuna with Green Top ($11), Spicy Tuna ($10) and Yamagobo with Vegetables ($8). The Rainbow Roll, $11, is made with tuna, salmon, snow crab, cucumber and avocado. Do you like sashimi? The sashimi selection offers a choice of four from this list – tuna, yellowtail, salmon, albacore, shrimp, octopus and tuna tataki. Omakase Sashimi consists of five sashimi from the chef’s selection. The price for both is $8. Nigiri (two pieces each) consist of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, Akashi octopus, eel, shrimp and omake sushi for $4-$9. The menu also features seven Asian cocktails, including the Batida Nagasaki and Asian Pear, 10 wines by the glass, an impressive selection of more than a dozen different sakes, and green and brown rice teas. Overall, I enjoyed Sushi on Five and hope to return before the end of the cruise. READ MORE: Photo tour of a cruise ship: Celebrity Millennium
Blu for AquaClassclients
One evening I dined at Blu, the exclusive AquaClass guest restaurant; I am staying in a balcony cabin on the AquaClass, #9157. In my opinion, one of the best – if not the best – benefits of the AquaClass is the ability to dine at the Blu. Click here for more information about the Celebrity Millennium AquaClass. Blue With its very large round windows in the shape of a porthole, the Blu exudes elegance and modernity, with a beautiful blue and white color scheme. Toppings include spinach salad, pickled beet salad, creamy bisque of crab, bisque of baked beetroot and salad of local tomatoes. However, the four guests at my table (yes, me too, of course!) opted for the scallops with macadamia nut crust. The seafood was crispy and perfectly cooked. Scallops in macadamia nut crust Blu’s signature dishes include steamed Pacific salmon, grilled octopus salad, truffle ricotta gnocchi, vegetable medley of the day and more. I ordered the sherry-glazed pheasant breast, which was absolutely delicious, and my friend ordered the herb-crowned Kare lamb, which, as you can see from the photo, is absolutely fantastic. Lamb rack in grass rind Next time, I’m going that way, too. Dishes include timeless classics like New York steak, lightly seared Atlantic salmon fillet or fried chicken breast. If you still have room for dessert (which is debatable, depending on what you order first!), don’t miss the fashionable apple pie, which was exactly what we expected in terms of taste. Blu’s dessert selection also includes ice cream, coconut sorbet, fresh strawberry soup, sugar-free puff pastry tulips and classics like New York Cheesecake. Apple pie a la mode Red and white wines are freely poured during dinner at the guest’s request and a sommelier will explain the characteristics of each wine. He also came to our table after dinner to pour the ice wine (slightly sweet, delicate and soft) that our hosts had ordered. Guests can order a Blu signature cocktail, such as Whiskey Blu or Botanical Bliss, if they wish. However, it is important to note that wine and other alcoholic beverages at dinner are not part of the restaurant menu. However, guests can avoid paying for certain wines and other beverages by purchasing a Classic Beverage Package or a Celebrity Premium Beverage Package. If you have booked a suite on the Celebrity Millennium, you can dine in Luminae, an elegant and modern restaurant designed exclusively for you. Usually I don’t visit this restaurant at all on a cruise, but since this cruise is the first in a series that Celebrity has planned in the Caribbean, the cruise line wanted to introduce this establishment to our group. Bulbs Bulbs This restaurant has a warm, upscale feel and is staffed by very professional and polite waiters and managers, like you would find on the floor of an exclusive, upscale restaurant. But they are also very accommodating to customers: one waiter, who knew I wanted to take a picture of a particular dish, asked if he could go to another table with my camera to take a picture for me. We started with appetizers, with a choice of scallop carpaccio, turkey escarole soup or braised short ribs, which my companion ordered. My choice was a refreshing and crunchy kale salad with aromatic roasted tomatoes, watermelon, pine nuts, feta cheese and a lemon vinaigrette. Crunchy cabbage salad Dishes range from veal cannelloni with chestnuts, mussels and piperade to spicy marinated chicken breast with butternut squash puree and butternut squash caponata. Guests can also choose a grilled New York steak with truffle puree, Bordelez sauce, carrots and beetroot appetizers. Another option is the butternut chard lasagna with gruyere béchamel, sage and pumpkin crumble. Luminae also serves a variety of dishes created by celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, Celebrity’s global culinary brand ambassador. Her appetizer is a fresh carrot-ginger soup with shrimp, lime and cilantro, and her dessert is a raspberry-pistachio-vanilla cream dressing. Personally, I was looking forward to the Moroccan Bulouda Chicken Tagine dish with saffron couscous, beets, cauliflower, preserved lemon and olives. The bird almost fell off the bone, but it was still moist and tender. The loan has given what I can only describe as a pleasant and comfortable taste. One of the desserts of Luminae, the chocolate Napoleon. As mentioned earlier, we will be posting more reviews this week of the Metropolitan, the main dining room, as well as Oceanview Cafe, Tuscan Grille and Petit Chef. If you’re sailing on the Celebrity Millennium, have a good meal. Previous Celebrity Millennium trip report: Susan Young. As I was getting ready for bed over the weekend, I couldn’t help but look at the clock and think, “Oh boy, its time for my morning cup of coffee.” My mind wasn’t set on the coffee itself, but rather on the flavors that would be in the cup, and the feelings that would be stirred in me. I got my first hug and kiss from my son earlier that morning, and as I went downstairs to make the coffee, I remembered just how thankful I was for him..
