Danish travel company Albatros Expeditions has announced plans to open its first US office in New York City in March of 2014. The company will be based in Manhattan’s trendy Meatpacking district and will offer New Yorkers and travelers the chance to explore the city for free.
I hope you keep reading, because I have a story to tell that involves a small, private, Danish company called Albatros that has just entered the U.S. market. For those who don’t know, Albatros is a small, family-owned firm that was founded in 1948 in Denmark. This small company has many years of experience in the travel business, and although I have never been to Denmark, I am told it is a beautiful country with a lot of nice people.
A Danish expedition cruise line has entered the US market in an effort to build relationships with travel advisors.
Albatros Expeditions offers travel consultants commissions that start at 10% and can go up to 15% depending on the sales threshold. The company has opened a sales office in Miami and can be reached at albatros-expeditions.com/ or 888-691-0620.
The website encourages agents to sign up for the Travel Advisor newsletter and enter the raffle for a trip for two to Antarctica.
The company has just opened its first polar season on the brand new Ocean Albatross, a sister ship to the Ocean Victory that meets the same environmental criteria and has the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per passenger in the industry.
Ocean Albatross has the highest ice class 1A, polar code 6. It is built with dynamic positioning and no-speed stabilizers. The ship is equipped with the X-Bow from Ulstein Design & Solutions, which shares the water with minimal disruption. The interior design has a Scandinavian feel and all cabins are equipped with environmentally friendly amenities. The ship features three restaurants, including a new Nordic sushi restaurant, an infinity pool, whirlpools, spa, gym and panoramic sauna.
Firstly, Ocean Albatros is equipped with Tier III engines, the cleanest engines in the world, which reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, explains Hans Lagerwey, president of the company. Secondly, we only burn marine diesel, which emits less CO2 per tonne burned than heavy bunker fuel. Third, the patented and revolutionary Ulstein X-bow is fantastically effective, especially in surf and rough seas. Finally, the Ocean Albatros has a fully optimized compact design that comfortably accommodates 183 guests with a length of only 104 meters and a gross tonnage of just over 8,000 tons.
Albatros Expeditions, founded in 1985, is also an expert on Greenland, offering seven itineraries in 2023 that explore the world’s largest national park on the east side, Viking history on the south side and authentic settlements with the UNESCO World Heritage Icefjord on the west side.
Albatros offers four itineraries to Svalbard, one of the best places in the world to see polar bears in their natural habitat. Two new voyages will explore the historical and natural sites of the Baltic Sea.
