Chase Freedom is one of the most popular rewards cards in the US, and it offers a lot for the money it charges. This card comes with a bonus of 5,000 bonus points for spending $500 in the first 3 months that you have the card. Chase Freedom also has NO Annual Fee, so you don’t have to worry about paying for the card in the first year.
In addition to a hefty sign up bonus, you can earn more points on the Chase Freedom card. The Chase Freedom card offers a sign up bonus of $625 for spending $500 in the first three months, which is a good deal. However, you can earn an additional $625 in bonus rewards by enrolling in certain Chase credit card bonuses.

I am rewarded for the content and the many links on this blog. Citibank is an advertising partner of this site, as are American Express, Chase, Barclays and Capital One. All opinions expressed in this article are my own and have not been reviewed, approved or endorsed by my advertisers. I’m not going to tell you about all the credit cards out there. Instead, I’m going to focus on miles, points and cashback (and the currency that can be converted into them). The terms and conditions apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.
Chase has increased the initial bonus offers on two Ultimate Rewards loyalty cards with no annual fee.
- Chase Freedom Unlimited® offers a $200 initial bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Earn 5% cashback on grocery store purchases (excluding purchases at Target® or Walmart®) up to a $12,000 spend in the first year. The money comes in the form of points – and if you use the food category and meet the spending requirements for the bonus, you will earn 80,000 points.
My favorite part – and why I use this card myself – is the unlimited 1.5% cashback on all other purchases. However, you will also earn 5% on trips you purchase through Chase and 3% on meals at restaurants and pharmacies.
- Chase Freedom FlexSM offers a $200 bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months after account opening. Earn 5% cashback on grocery store purchases (excluding purchases at Target® or Walmart®) up to $12,000 in the first year. Earn 5% permanent cashback on up to $1,500 in eligible categories, 5% on travel purchased through Chase, 3% on restaurant and drugstore meals, and 1% on all other purchases.
While points from these cards do not transfer directly to airline or hotel programs, you can combine them with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® card and transfer them from there to participating airline or hotel loyalty programs. I want to earn 5 points for every dollar I spend in different categories that I can transfer to United, Singapore or Hyatt as well as other Chase partners.
Of course, the Chase 5/24 rule applies, and you are unlikely to be approved if you have had 5 or more new cards in the past 24 months. But many people who were in that bubble didn’t apply for new cards during the pandemic, and Chase is now giving them options again. Of course, I’d prefer the Chase Sapphire Preferred® card offer, which offers 100,000 points for $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
