Emerald Waterways and Emerald Yacht Cruises officially merged Tuesday under one global brand, Emerald Cruises. Cruise lovers can now search and buy their favourite destination or cruise type, compare ships, check availability and book a river or yacht cruise online, all on one website.
We are excited to announce the transition to our new unified Emerald Cruises brand, coinciding with the launch of the new locations around the world, said David Winterton, global brand and marketing director for Emerald Cruises, in a press release. We believe the move to a single brand will support our long-term growth ambitions as a leading cruise line specializing in small ships.
Emerald Cruises says it has grown steadily since its inception nearly seven years ago. In 2013, Australia’s Scenic Group announced the launch of a new premium river cruise line aimed at younger, more active travellers, filling a gap in the river cruise market with its outstanding value and flexibility. A year later, in April 2014, with the launch of two new ships – Emerald Sky and Emerald Star – Emerald Waterway was born. The shipping company currently operates eight vessels under the Star-Ships brand name on rivers in 15 countries and two continents, while the ninth vessel, the Emerald Luna, will be launched later this year. In early 2020, the line announced plans to add the 100-passenger superyacht Emerald Azzurra to its growing portfolio of cruising yachts. From January 2022, the Emerald Azzurra will sail in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, Red and Aegean Seas. In 2023, the Black Sea will be added to the calendar.
Most staterooms on all Emerald Cruises’ river ships have outdoor balconies, while the stern features an indoor and outdoor heated pool (which turns into a movie theater at night). The Emerald Azzurra will have a marina from which guests can participate in various activities, including paddle boarding and snorkeling, as well as three dinghies and two Zodiacs for shore excursions.
All cruise fares include transfers to and from the ship on arrival and departure days (whether or not guests have booked airfare with Emerald Cruises), all meals on board, unlimited tea and coffee, wine, beer and soft drinks at lunch and dinner, shore excursions, daily water refills in staterooms, Wi-Fi, and all gratuities and port charges.
Emerald Cruises says it will continue to offer a range of EmeraldACTIVE excursions for guests interested in more sporty activities during their cruise on both river and yacht cruises. Activities such as cycling, hiking and canoeing are offered free of charge to supplement the daily programme of shore excursions.
