Hawaiian Airlines today announced the opening of new twice-weekly nonstop service between Orlando (MCO) and Honolulu (HNL), providing convenient service between Sun and the Aloha State. This morning, passengers boarding the first scheduled flight on this new route – the first-ever commercial flight between Florida and Hawaii – were greeted with wreaths, music and Hawaiian dancing.
We are excited to introduce our award-winning Hawaiian hospitality to our Florida customers, so they can begin their island vacation as soon as they step on board, said Peter Ingram, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines. We are also excited to offer Hawaiian travelers the unparalleled convenience of our non-stop service from Honolulu to Orlando, a favorite destination of our Kamaians (residents).
Hawaiian plans to seasonally increase the number of flights from Orlando to Honolulu to three per week beginning Jan. 1. June through Aug. 10 to meet expected demand for summer travel.
Even before the launch of the new nonstop route, Orlando was one of the largest domestic markets for Hawaii. Orlando on the other hand, with its many world-class attractions, is already a popular destination for Hawaiians. Orlando is now Hawaiian Airlines’ third eastern gateway, after New York City (JFK) and Boston (BOS).
New service in a country as popular as Honolulu is not only a win for Central Florida residents, but also for anyone traveling from Orlando International Airport, said Phil Brown, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. The ability to directly connect two of the world’s most popular vacation destinations brings a new level of service to travelers looking to explore the best vacation destinations in the United States.
Flight HA85 departs Orlando at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays and is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu at 2:05 p.m. Flight HA86 from Honolulu to Orlando currently departs at 5:15 pm on Thursdays and Sundays and arrives at 7:00 am the next day. The summer schedule will include additional sailings from Orlando on Thursdays and Honolulu on Tuesdays.
