If you stayed at the JW Marriott in Cabo with points, you’ll get a refund

The J.W. The Marriott Las Cabos Resort charges Bonvoy members $30 per night in points.
A service charge of $30 per night applies to all Marriott Bonvoy refinancing nights.
These fixed costs are called service costs. A la carte guests pay a similar service charge of 10% of the room rate. For payments of less than $300, the fee is lower for customers who pay cash than for customers who pay with points.
Appropriations : J.W. Marriott Los Cabos
Most importantly, there are no additional costs for staying in the glasses. For some time now, the hotel has been charging guests who have booked a premium night an inflated rate, hitting them with $30 per night when they receive an amount from Marriott that covers the entire stay (excluding resort fees, per night).
When I asked Marriott about this, I was told that these service charges were typical of resorts in Mexico and that award-winning guests were not affected, despite the unfortunate wording on Marriott’s website suggesting otherwise. I pushed him away.
- The claim that there is no specific service fee for refunding a stay is incorrect, as there is no flat fee of $30 for a paid reservation that is charged at 10% of the price paid.
- This is irrelevant because the service charge (or other charge that is a percentage of the room rate) – unlike the resort fee – must be included in the hotel rate. The terms and conditions of the Bonvoy program stipulate in paragraph 3.2.e that the redemption of the free night … includes the tax/room rate.
Emphasizing Marriott’s terms seemed to lead to action. Marriott first explained the service charge: The full amount of these incidents will be paid directly to the hotel staff as a tip. That’s fine, but the hotel staff has to deal with it – they’re paid by Marriott, and that includes a service charge. And if they are underpaying their workers, they need to do something about it.
Nevertheless, the network has acknowledged that charging such fees to recipients is contrary to the terms and conditions of the program. Marriott then asked the estate to exclude him.
And more,
Marriott is investigating whether this practice has existed in other properties owned by the company. Once our investigation is complete, we will contact our members who have been affected by such allegations and we intend to rectify the situation.
In other words: Anyone who has been charged for a service in connection with their stay at the Marriott Bonvoy Ransom should be reimbursed – eventually.
All we have to do now is get Marriott to refund the erroneous amount to the credit card of the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. But there is progress.
