MSC Cruises has revealed details of MSC’s futuristic Starship Club immersion, which will be available exclusively on the company’s new flagship, the MSC Virtuosa, which launches on June 16. April’s going into labor.
What’s so unusual about it? MSC Star Club will be home to Rob, the first robot humanoid bartender at sea (Royal Caribbean International has robot bartenders on several ships, but they are not humanoid).

The integrated bar and entertainment offerings are inspired by MSC Cruises’ vision of the future of the spaceship. MSC Starliner One’s state-of-the-art technology creates a futuristic atmosphere with 3D holograms, an immersive digital art wall and a 12-seat interactive digital infinity table, allowing guests to explore space with their own personal galactic tour.
Rob mixes and serves his own cocktails – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic – and custom drinks like a human bartender would, while talking to customers and using human expressions to fully immerse himself in the atmosphere of the bar.
Rob’s skills and emotional empathy complement the flesh-and-blood bartenders, who will wear costumes straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Customers will use the vertical digital cockpits in this area to place their orders. Rob will then prepare cocktails by pouring, shaking, creating or stirring and garnishing spirits, juices and syrups.
Not only can Rob prepare a whole range of cocktails, but he also speaks eight languages (English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese), depending on the language the customer has chosen when placing the order. It also has a distinct personality that evolves with the environment and atmosphere. The humanoid robot uses his LED face to convey emotions, so guests can enjoy his work while sipping their cocktail.

The cooking status of each cocktail is displayed on digital monitors and an LED ticker above the robot island, while guests immerse themselves in the space theme.
Cocktails are served in futuristic custom-made glasses that guests can collect as a lasting souvenir of the MSC Starship Club. Cruisers can return to the club multiple times during the cruise and experience a new interaction with Rob each time.
After several three-, four- and five-night cruises in the Mediterranean, MSC Virtuosi will set sail for Northern Europe in the summer of 2021 with itineraries to the Norwegian fjords and Baltic capitals.
