Today, Nassau Cruises announced that it will be homeporting its fleet to Nassau in a couple of years. The homeporting happens during a time when cruise lines are expanding from the U.S. to the Caribbean and Asia. For Nassau, homeporting means a lot of new jobs and growth for the city, and Nassau Cruises hopes to create 2,000 new jobs during the next couple of years.
Last week, the cruise-ship industry hit a milestone as it reached a milestone of homeporting 100 ships to the U.S. One cruise ship was already homeported to the U.S., the Disney Wonder, flagged by the United States in 2009. This week, the carrier welcomed a second ship home to the U.S., the Royal Caribbean’s Disney Magic. The ship’s homeport is now New York City. Homeporting is a process in which new ships are registered with the federal government.
