Texas recently reopened the state at 100% capacity with no masks. Nevertheless, people around the world are still worried about coming together in a world that has almost outlived COVID.
That’s why Carson Hager, a Houston-based software and hospitality entrepreneur, and his team created SafeFun, a free app that allows users to voluntarily share COVID-19 test results and vaccination information with anyone in their designated social network.

SafeFun can be downloaded and used for free. Users can register with a password before they can download information about tests or vaccines. SafeFun then examines the information uploaded by users and adds it to the SafeFun passport. The application is also compatible with international borders.
Carson Hager, the entrepreneur behind the application, was particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The founder of Cynergy Systems in 1996 later sold the company and opened three bars in Houston, which struggled to stay open during the unpredictable pandemic.
We originally created SafeFun to help people feel good again. We thought that if people knew that everyone in the room had had a recent, provable, negative test or vaccination, they would feel more comfortable in restaurants, bars, gyms, on dates, etc. Providing extra comfort to people in the nightlife, backed by science, can mean life or death for us and others in our industry. We felt like we had no choice but to build it, so we literally worked day and night for months to get it done. When people started using it, they often told us that they wanted to use it with their friends and family as well. So we added the ability to share your status with people you know. That’s how we got to where we are today.
The platform allows users to request friends from their contacts or social networks to determine who they want to communicate with based on their vaccine and COVID-19 test results.
Imagine if a couple could ever invite all their family and friends to their wedding – not just a handful – and feel confident enough to book their honeymoon with non-refundable reservations, Hager said. That is the hope we seek to inspire.
The SafeFun app can be downloaded for free from Google Play and the App Store.
