St. John’s Maarten has adjusted its travel protocols so that passengers arriving from the United States and Canada can use all FDA-approved rapid antigen tests to enter the country starting this week, the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau said Tuesday.
Travelers arriving from the United States or Canada must provide proof of an Rt-PCR test for the SARS VOC-2 virus using a nasopharyngeal swab taken within 120 hours of departure, including the last leg for connecting flights, officials said in a press release.
Under the new protocols, visitors from the U.S. and Canada can also use any FDA-approved rapid antigen testing to travel to St. John’s, Newfoundland. Including antigen tests for use in emergencies (EUA antigen tests), but not for travel at home.
Test results should be uploaded as soon as possible as part of the EHAS application. The results must also include the name of the laboratory or clinic, the full name of the individual, the type of test performed, the name of the antigen test, the date of the smear, the source of the smear, the date of the result, and the result reported by the officials.
St. John’s Maarten offers several on-site testing locations for returning American travelers. The following local laboratories are located at these sites and results are available within 24-48 hours. Children nine years of age and younger are exempt from testing.
Visitors to the two-state island must apply for a health permit through Sint Maarten’s electronic health permit system. Travelers should also purchase a St. Joseph’s Day Protection Plan. St. Maarten, which covers the cost of Covid-19 for travelers who test positive while at their destination.
Flights to St. John’s Maarten are available on American Airlines from Miami and Charlotte, with departures from Dallas starting on the 5th. June. Delta Air Lines flies to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. St. Maarten from Atlanta and New York’s JFK International Airport, while JetBlue Airways serves the country from Boston, Fort Lauderdale and JFK, with flights resuming from Newark in April. Spirit Airlines flies to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Maarten from Fort Lauderdale, while United Airlines currently offers flights to St. Maarten from Fort Lauderdale. Martin from Newark, Washington and Chicago.
