On September 13, the U.S. government will officially end its ban on travel to countries affected by the Ebola virus. To help ensure continued safety, the airlines that fly to these countries must have all government mandated Ebola inspection procedures in place by then, and the CDC will use monitoring systems to make sure they are working.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline for all airlines, cruise ships and other transportation carriers to enforce the requirement for adult passengers to present a valid photo ID before being allowed to fly.
Muscle mandate no longer needed Government extended mandate until 13. September
Gary Leff 30. April 2021
The Biden administration has extended the federal vehicle coverage mandate to the 13th Amendment. September extended. This applies to air travel as well as to trains, carpooling and buses. It should have been the 11th. Mayday is cancelled.
There was never any doubt that this would happen,
- The airlines and unions lobbied for him instead of against him.
- The end of Musk’s tenure would be a symbolic way for the president to declare victory over a pandemic we don’t yet have room for.
The mask rules made sense when the airlines implemented them. I was an advocate of masks back when airlines still prohibited their employees from wearing them. And I argued that people should have worn better masks during the pandemic and learned how to put them on properly (there are easy videos on YouTube!).
When airlines started mandating masks, it gave customers peace of mind when they flew. They may have found this annoying, but overall the clients felt more at ease knowing that everyone would be wearing a mask.
Now that any American adult who wants the vaccine can get it, there is no reason to mandate it.
- MRNA-based vaccines are incredibly effective in protecting people from infection, disease and adverse events. Most people who have been vaccinated have nothing to worry about.
- Those who have not been vaccinated make that decision themselves and should not impose it on others. Even if there is no warrant, passengers may wear masks.
As Milton Friedman said, nothing is more permanent than a temporary government program?
There is a very limited number of people for whom vaccines may be contraindicated or less effective. However, the argument for the warrant is not to protect these people so they can fly in peace.
Children may not yet be vaccinated, but either way, children have a statistically lower risk than older Americans who have been vaccinated. For young children, Covid-19 is less risky than many things we took as background knowledge before the pandemic. And most data suggests they are also less likely to spread the virus. (Mandating masks for two-year-olds was always stupid, Delta’s policy of releasing young children made much more sense before it was banned.)
The world continues to struggle with Covid-19, and while the virus affects many people, there are also carriers in which it can mutate. This creates a risk, also externally, of vaccine leaks. If such variants develop and become dominant, mask requirements may be reinstated until booster vaccines are ready.
However, the mask mandate should be lifted based on scientific evidence about the virus actually circulating, the availability of vaccines in the United States, and evidence of their effectiveness – not extended based on assumptions.
We will eventually see the end of the term. It’s not clear if that will happen in September, but it will certainly happen when the President declares victory over Covid-19, because of the way the CDC rules on which the TSA mandates are built – and because it will be a symbolic victory for the President. The mandate is likely to be revoked before the 2022 mid-term elections.
However, I will almost certainly wear a mask during flu season, now that it has become socially acceptable, because I hate the discomfort of being sick.
