Norwegian Cruise Line has confirmed to crew members that they must be vaccinated to work on NCL ships. This applies to all of its member cruise lines, including Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas and Oceania Cruises.
This comes at a time when many cruise lines are implementing plans to return to safe cruising. It could also indicate that NCL will launch vaccine-only ships in other US markets. An announcement of the transfer is expected very soon.
The order to vaccinate the crew was first reported by the Crew Center, which posted the text online. A recent survey of crew showed that many crew members already have plans to get vaccinated in their home countries in anticipation of a possible return to summer cruising.
As a result of the investigation and the experts’ recommendations, all crew members and officers will therefore have to be fully vaccinated before returning to a ship, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) said :
To ensure the safest possible cruise, and with the advice of our experts, we will require all officers and crew to be fully vaccinated with the NCLH accepted KOVID-19 vaccine to work on our ships once we are back at sea. Vaccinations, in addition to reliable, multi-layered preventative health and safety measures, help us create a uniquely safe and healthy vacation environment that we believe is superior to all other land and sea vacation options.

NCLH advises crews to get vaccinated under an approved brand as soon as possible. Those who cannot be vaccinated will have to wait for these vaccines to be administered on board.

The letter to the crew focuses on inoculations in the country. The cruise line is working hard behind the scenes to get back to business, and a big part of that is getting enough crew on board.
The situation between the CDC and the cruise industry in the US is still unclear as to when operations will resume. However, we already know that Norwegian Cruise Line will soon announce a new deployment of five cruise ships. NCL recently informed Cruise Hive that it will soon announce a revised broadcast schedule.
Gradually, Norwegian Cruise Line could start focusing on domestic cruises in the UK or even other home ports outside the US, as its rival Royal Caribbean already does.
Most of these cruises are for fully vaccinated guests and crew, so making sure the crew is fully vaccinated is a win for NCLH.
