Odyssey of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship. She is part of Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Ultra class and is a sister ship to the Spectrum of the Seas. This article will tell you everything you need to know about the ship so you can get to know it before you even board! She is one of the most anticipated ships of recent years and has certainly been in development for a long time. Like most of the cruise industry in 2020 and 2021. Royal Caribbean’s new ships have been hit hard, leaving the future of the Odyssey of the Seas in doubt and pushing back the delivery date to April 2021. Still, this ship was worth the wait, even if it took a long time. Futuristic, luxurious and full of fun for all the family, this ship is sure to please any world traveler, whether you are traveling with young children, as a couple or as a seasoned cruiser. Want to know what to expect before you book a Royal Caribbean Odyssey of the Seas cruise? We have listed all the details you need for you.
Odyssey of the Seas Statistics and facts
Odyssey of the Seas, originally scheduled for 2020, will debut in April 2021. Although the order was placed with the builder in 2015, construction of the vessel did not begin until 2019. Photo courtesy of: Royal Caribbean There were numerous delays in 2020, including the COVID-19 pandemic and two separate fires that damaged the ship, one in May 2020 and one in June 2020. But when the tumultuous building process was over, this was what was left:
- The gross tonnage is 169,000 GT. So the Odyssey of the Seas is smaller than the Spectrum of the Seas, although it is still one of the largest ships in the world.
- 16 decks (14 of which are accessible to guests)
- 17 Lifts
- 1,138 feet long and 135 feet wide
- Capacity of 4,198 cruise passengers in normal double occupancy, but total capacity of 5,498 guests and 1,550 international crew members.
- As the 20th largest cruise ship in the world, she sits firmly between Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Escape.
But the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t just impact the construction process of the Royal Caribbean Odyssey of the Seas. This also affects the planned routes of the ship. The ship was originally scheduled to dock in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as previously mentioned (making it the first Royal Caribbean Quantum class ship to call at that region), but due to U.S. shipping restrictions, the completion had to be postponed and the ship is spending her first season in the Mediterranean. But that has now been cancelled and the ship will finally make its debut in Florida.
What makes the Odyssey of the Seas different from other Royal Caribbean ships?
If you’re a longtime fan of Royal Caribbean, you may be wondering how the Odyssey of the Seas compares to other Royal Caribbean cruise ships, including the Quantum and Quantum Ultra classes. image courtesy : Royal Caribbean As previously mentioned, Odyssey of the Seas is the second Quantum Ultra-class cruise ship, after Spectrum of the Seas, to operate out of East Asia. The Quantum Ultra class is known for several things, including…
- One large dining room instead of four small ones
- Reduced fitness and wellness area
- Solarium improvement
- New restaurants and drinking and entertainment venues
- New entertainment opportunities
- Extended free space
If you’ve ever sailed on a Quantum-class ship, you can expect these differences. However, if you have only sailed on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class cruise ships, you will notice some major differences, including the smaller overall size of the ships. While the Oasis class is big, big, big, the Quantum and Quantum Ultra classes are smaller classes (although, really, can you really call a ship with over 4,000 beds small?). Cruisers note that Quantum and Quantum Ultra class ships generally have a greater sense of luxury and sophistication.

The pool deck extends over two sections with plenty of places to swim.

Other activities include parties, movie nights, games and more, all exclusively for teens. Younger children can also benefit from educational and recreational programs tailored to their needs and interests.
