Five days a week, I work from home, so when I get a day off, I like to take a few hours to myself. I like to get outside and be in nature. Unfortunately, in the last few years, I’ve been forced to do most of my travel on a boat. The good news is, I’ve found a few incredible water destinations that are worth the time I spend at sea. One of my favorites place to visit is the Bahamas.
I am off to a life changing destination, a new, exciting locale, a place that I can’t wait to return to. It’s a place where I am going to rediscover the world and my place in it. A place where I will be reminded of how breathtaking it is to travel the world and how thankful I am to have the opportunity to do so, a place that I will never forget.

And it wasn’t just any ship, it was the Celebrity Edge, about to embark on her first lucrative cruise out of a U.S. port after a shutdown that nearly destroyed the entire industry.
I’m not one to talk about my feelings, but I will say this: It was an incredible moment.
It’s a question we’ve all asked ourselves: What would I have done differently if I had known that this would be the last time I would be on a boat? Is this the last time I’ve been on a boat for over a year? When people ask me this, I always reply jokingly: I refuse to go out.
And today, after climbing the ridge, I was overwhelmed by the feeling of coming home. It’s an incredible feeling, and honestly, I can’t wait for each of you to experience it when you’re finally back on board ship.
It is important to note that I am a guest of Celebrity Cruises on this cruise. I have had a good relationship with Celebrity for a long time and they have never interfered or tried to manage editorial content, which is very important to me. If I’m not able to share my honest thoughts about my experiences, then what’s the point, right?
If there is one small drawback to being a guest, it is that your host or hostess is often keen to make your life easier by organising everything for you. Although I usually prefer to dine late in the main dining room, this week I’m eating earlier than usual (at 7pm) and taking advantage of the many specialty restaurants the Edge has to offer.
If all goes according to plan, I’ll also be talking to everyone from the hotel manager to Captain Kate McCue. So if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section and I will do my best to answer them.
Honestly, I spent most of the first day walking around the city and taking it all in. Everywhere you looked, there were people who felt the same way I did. We’re finally back on the ship.
Since I couldn’t get you on board (sorry!), I guess the least I can do is share a few random photos of the ship….. I know it’s not even the best thing to do here, but I hope it cheers you up a bit as you count down the time until your own return.

Now you’re probably thinking: Have you eaten yet? Because we want to see pictures of the food! And if you know anything about me, you know I do… Of course you do! Dinner on the first evening was at Blu Restaurant. This is one of the most luxurious amenities on board, but is only available to guests staying in special staterooms/suites.
Spoiler alert: Your mouths will be open in 3…2…
After a busy day, followed by a hearty dinner, I could already feel my energy starting to wane. …. A comfortable cabin and some time on the porch was calling my name. But before I went there, I met some fellow journalists for a nightcap at The Retreat.
Like the Blu, The Retreat is a special enclave reserved for guests staying in certain parts of the ship. Think of it as a ship-in-ship concept from Celebrity, like a yacht club from MSC or accommodation from Norwegian Cruise Line. What’s especially nice about this area is that the lounge is open to guests 24/7, making it a great place to relax in virtual solitude at certain times of the day and night.
Tomorrow is sea day and we will have a Q&A with Richard Fain of Royal Caribbean and Captain Kate. The end of May marks the end of a 3-month period in which I sailed around the Caribbean and the Bahamas, and the beginning of a new sailing adventure..
