Tauck expects greater interest in its river cruises, which will be part of the Floriade International Horticultural Exhibition in 2022, and in response has quadrupled the number of trips it offers.
The event, which takes place once a decade and was last held in 2012, will take place on four different river cruises during the upcoming 2022 season.

Our excitement is due to both our past experience with Floriade and the truly incredible plans we’ve seen for the 2022 show, said Dan Mahar, CEO of Tauck. Our guests are so interested in Floriade that we practically ran out of stock in 2012, he explains.
Mahar also noted that the 2012 Floriade attracted more than 2,000,000 visitors, about four times as many as the 2010 Oberammergau Passion Games, another popular event of the decade presented by Tauck River Cruises.
This event is more than just a flower show. Next year’s theme is Growing Green Cities. There will be events on green architecture and design, but also on sustainable food production, renewable energy and healthy living. The exhibition takes place in the city of Almere, situated on 148 hectares of land that has been reclaimed from the sea. The buildings and facilities constructed for the event will remain an environmentally friendly town center.
A successful comparison of Floriade 2022 and its visionary focus on the cities of tomorrow would be Walt Disney’s vision for EPCOT, Mahar said.
Of course, the festival also offers a wide variety of flowers, trees, shrubs, plants and crops, as well as live performances, cultural themed programs and exhibitions, numerous international pavilions, an array of restaurants, food trucks and tastings, and a diverse campus connected by gondolas, trains, bridges and walking paths.
Tauck customers receive early admission and a private tour of the exhibition with a small group. Ships can moor at Huysen, which is a 10-minute drive from the Floriade.
Tauck’s four river cruises calling at Floriade include two 15-day cruises from Amsterdam to Budapest and along the Rhine and Moselle rivers, as well as two eight-day spring cruises to Belgium and the Netherlands and a new itinerary for 2021 that will use Dutch waterways.
Mahar noted that this once-a-decade event, similar to Oberammergau’s Passion Plays, is very popular with those who want to see the book quickly.
For most travelers, attending an event like Floriade or the Passion Games of Oberammergau is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and since these events only take place every 10 years, the opportunities to attend them are very limited, Mahar said. Understandably, this creates a real sense of urgency in our customers, encouraging them to act quickly. The Oberammergau Passion Show was already 90% sold out before we started actively promoting it, and we are convinced that our trips to Floriade will be able to count on the same response.

Viking offers more weekly cruises than Tauck and sails to more locations and dates. If you want flexibility, this line is hard to beat. Choose Tauck if you like a more intimate ship.
