The Bilt Rewards program is either a new program from Bilt or a rebrand of Bilt’s program. Either way, Bilt Rewards is now the only hotel program that allows its members to transfer their points to Hyatt MR. While most other hotel programs either don’t allow you to transfer points, or don’t let you use your points at Hyatt’s properties, Bilt Rewards does.
The new hotel rewards program Bilt Rewards announced today that they have partnered with Hyatt to transfer points to their loyalty program, which means you can now move Hyatt points to Bilt Rewards points. It may not seem like a big deal, but it’s actually a pretty big deal.
After charging hotels a $5 fee for transferring points between their loyalty programs, Hyatt created a new loyalty program called Bilt Points which allows customers to transfer points between the new program and a number of other loyalty programs, including Hyatt. Because the new rewards program was created by a new company (i.e., not Hyatt) and since Hyatt already offered a points transfer program through its loyalty program, Hyatt was able to offer a new program with a unique name, but essentially the same features as other points transfer programs.. Why Hyatt is the only hotel points transfer partner for the new Bilt Rewards program

With the new Bilt Rewards program, members can earn points for renting an apartment and even receive points for paying rent to each landlord. She has a credit card and the points are converted 1:1 into different loyalty currencies.
At first glance, it seems surprising that Hyatt is the only transfer partner for hotel points. This makes sense for Bilt, as it is the only hotel program where a 1:1 point conversion is beneficial to participants. But we haven’t seen Hyatt offer that many partnerships yet. Why add Bilt?
Hyatt does not have an online shopping portal. There is no incentive program for restaurants. No real estate or mortgage brokerage program. In addition to hotels and airlines, the company partners with a number of experience providers, as well as car rental companies Avis and Points.com to sell points. That’s it. So why add a whole new program?
I spoke with Ari Levin, vice president of partnerships at World of Hyatt, about the decision to partner with Bilt Rewards and concluded that is a game for Millennials, not a game to sell points, even though the partnership works primarily through the transfer of points from Bilt to World of Hyatt.
There are other luxury hotels in the Hyatt portfolio. This is true not only in the full-service sector, from Hyatt Regency to Alila to Park Hyatt, but also in the limited-service sector, where Hyatt Place and Hyatt House are relatively high-end compared to the competition.

As a result, the World of Hyatt population is older and better off financially than the average participant in other programs. This, along with the value proposition of the World of Hyatt program itself, is why their co-branded credit card is of great value to Chase. It outperforms Marriott and IHG on a per member basis.
But it also means that there is a group of travelers the program will have a harder time working with, despite the conventional wisdom that Millennials prefer experiences over objects, and Hyatt is heavily focused on experiences, from Miraval resorts Exhale spas Lindblad expeditions.
While Ari Levine has stated that Hyatt wants to meet World of Hyatt members where they are, and that this partnership means an extension when they are home and the ability to interact with new members when they are not traveling with us, I think the key to this proposal is the word new.
He acknowledged that the millennial market that Bilt has access to is the next globalist, that through Bilt they are potentially reaching customers who currently live in large urban areas to rent and who they want to attract to the program. Hyatt believes it has more to offer millennial travelers than in the past, thanks to the brands it has acquired from Two Roads Hospitality, Joie De Vivre, Thompson Hotels, Destination Hotels and Alila.

I asked if they plan to be more than just a points transfer partner to communicate with Bilt Rewards members, and Richard Kerr of Bilt said they plan to provide our member base with many different activations and [limited time offers]. To be continued, I think.
Levin says the success of the partnership is linear: the more Bilt rewards members for experiencing everything Hyatt offers, not just accommodations, but since Bilt’s primary rental partners are in urban centers where their hotels have high-end dining options, they’ll assess whether Bilt members also earn points for dining at places like the Blue Duck Tavern at the Park Hyatt DC, which is actually the first place I earned Hyatt points locally.
However, it seems worth noting that a significant portion of the Bilt points will likely be earned with the Bilt Mastercard and that these points can be transferred to Hyatt, and that this is all consistent with Hyatt’s partnership (and contract) with Chase. To which he simply replied that since the program is launched with Hyatt as a partner, we naturally made it work.
As Dave Canty of Bilt said, it is first and foremost a loyalty program for tenants and secondly a credit card. This is not a transferable credit card points program in the strictest sense. This also allows them to work with American AAdvantage, which is not a transfer partner for rewards in banking currency.

At hotels across the country, travel agents have been told to stop redeeming points for free night stays. Instead, they are now being offered other ways to rack up points, including purchasing an annual “Bilt Rewards” membership program. Hyatt’s one of the few hotel chains that will continue to accept Bilt Rewards points, but for the first time, they’re only going to do so for their Bilt points. That means that you’ll have to pay $14 a night for a free night stay instead of getting it for free just for using your Hyatt points..
