We have all heard the stories of newlyweds who welcome their guests onto the plane for their honeymoon trip by handing out business cards—one spouse is a travel agent, the other a wedding planner. It’s a concept that may seem unusual to most people, but as travel is becoming increasingly romantic, more and more couples are planning their vacations together. In fact, nearly 40,000 couples attended the Travel Agents Association of America’s (TAANAT) annual conference, held in San Diego recently.
Traveling as a couple might be the most romantic way to spend your vacation, but it also means you’ll be on your best behavior, which may not be your true personality! So, if you’re hoping to connect with your partner on a deeper level, then you need to give romance a little nudge. Some experts believe that the best way to bring out the lovable aspects of your partner is with a little spontaneity. For example, you may be planning a trip to a new destination to celebrate your anniversary, but a romantic getaway to a tropical beach or a city you’ve never visited before could be just as memorable. The key is to be spontaneous and romantic, a combination that

I was very excited to attend the DWHSA 2021 conference in April at the Playa Resort Hilton La Romana, after spending a year on the island almost exclusively helping our clients and working within our company to make sure it survived and was able to thrive after the pandemic, said Sam Mozolino, co-owner of Wishes Travel. For me, it was a way to connect and determine if last year’s changes were worth it.

This event brought travel consultants and suppliers from across the United States to Paradise to collaborate and focus on growing their business. The conference included panel discussions, breakout sessions, vendor presentations and a trade show.

The staff at the Hilton La Romana hotel has set up sites for travel advisors to check out for themselves. Evalyn Joseph of Ivy League Travel was grateful for the beautiful decorations as they gave her a glimpse of the wedding decor in the home.
It was great to see and experience all the options for destination weddings and romantic getaways. I will definitely stay here again and recommend the Hilton to my clients, Joseph said.
In addition to their stay at the Hilton La Romana, the daytime travel advisory team also visited other resorts in the area, including the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana and Sanctuary Cap Cana.
Ms. Mozolino admitted that she was initially hesitant to attend the event because she was not sure what to expect. Her fears were allayed, however, when she saw that Playa had health and safety protocols, such as… B. Mandatory face masks in the meeting room, multiple hand washing stations, outdoor staging area and COVID-19 testing on site.
My priority as an agent is to plan, protect and support my clients and their trips, and I really came away knowing that Playa Resorts has the same commitment to protect and support us agents last week! Mozolino said.

On the last night of the event, the Hilton La Romana hosted a farewell dinner for the group, which was held on the beach. Agents were able to see the incredible wedding decorations in person and take pictures to share with their clients at home.
After more than a year of separation, the energy of this personal collaboration was definitely felt by the consultants and travel service providers.

We are excited to be one of the first travel agency associations to return to conferences in person, said Lisa Sheldon, president and co-founder of DWHSA. Our members were looking forward to this exchange with like-minded people. The time we spent together learning and exchanging information reminded us of the days before Covid. Agents talked about the past 14 months, but many were optimistic about the future as enquiries and bookings have come in at a rapid pace recently. And we thank Playa Resorts for making this conference possible!
