The winter season of travel is upon us, and that means that many of our favorite cruise lines are either on hold or reducing their number of departures. Carnival, one of the top-selling cruise lines in the world, has announced there will be no new sailings of Carnival Sunshine or Carnival Freedom for next summer. Whether you’re seeking a Caribbean cruise or heading to Europe or the Mediterranean, there are many ways to plan ahead and make the best of your vacation.
Carnival said it will not be adding any new ships to its fleet this year, and it will keep the current ones on hold until August and then start looking for replacements. Carnival has been expanding its fleet at a rapid pace lately, which has caused a lot of frustration for customers who have been waiting for the ships for years.
If you’ve been around the industry long enough, you’ve heard the rumors. There are a handful of cruise lines that are struggling to maintain their financial footing, and we’re hearing that Carnival is on the list. The question is, what does this mean for those of us who are committed to booking one of their ships?. Cancellations on Carnival Cruise Line
On Thursday, Carnival Cruise Line unveiled its long-awaited plan to reopen in August. Consequently, details have already been released about the ships that will set sail in July. Now that there is a clearer timetable for the summer, we also know which ships will have to stay stranded longer, a total of eight cruise ships by August 2021. Here is the list of ships that will remain in reserve until August:
- Carnival Pride (Baltimore)
- Carnival Sunshine (Charleston)
- Carnival Ecstasy (Jacksonville)
- Carnival Liberty (Port of Canaveral)
- Carnival Conquest (Miami)
- Carnival Sensation (Mobile)
- Mardi Gras Glory (New Orleans)
- Carnival Dream (Galveston)
Carnival Cruise Line has already said it is moving forward with plans to cruise with even more ships again in September. So hopefully some ships will return in the same month. The Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit are based in Australia and these ships are available until the 17th. September, respectively 21. November suspended. Stay tuned as the situation remains very volatile and further cancellations are possible in September. We will know more as the date approaches. Much depends on the conditional swimming ban imposed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). President and CEO Christine Duffy said the ships will not return to sea until all crew members on board are fully vaccinated. It’s worth a read: President of Carnival Cruise Line talks about resuming service Over the past few weeks, cruise ships in several ports, including Port Miami, Port Canaveral and Port Galveston, have had their crews vaccinated. However, this takes time, including the repatriation of the crew from their home countries to the ship.
Options for relevant guests
With some Carnival cruise ships having suspended operations for an even longer period, the cruise line is offering its customers several options, detailed in a letter already sent to those on the affected voyages. Carnival Cruise Line has fully automated the process for guests to select their booking option. All this can be done using an online tool, which of course speeds up the process. There are options for future cruise credits and on-board credits or a full refund if the customer no longer wishes to cruise with that company. Guests have until December 31, 2021 to make their choice. If not, Carnival will automatically offer a credit for a future cruise. Summer is finally upon us, and it’s time to hit the Carnival cruise ship lines. But which ships will be out on the high seas through the end of August?
