Windstar Cruises has announced that it will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination to sail on its yachts until further notice.
Looking at the science of the virus, there are consistent recommendations for masks, social distancing, testing and better cleaning, says Andrew Todd, CEO of Windstar Cruises and parent company of Xanterra Travel Collection.
In response, Windstar developed Beyond Ordinary Care, a new program that is a layered strategy with key elements at the hospital level: HEPA filters and ultraviolet radiation that kills bacteria to filter and disinfect the air, and backpack sprayers to disinfect all surfaces on our yachts.
Recent government and media reports about the growing availability of COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S. and abroad make Windstar confident that those planning to sail on the carrier will have time to get vaccinated before their trip. Once the vaccine is available to the crew, they should get it.

Vaccination is another level of safety for all of us and a responsible measure as our yachts cruise again and our guests travel the world, said Christopher Prelog, President of Windstar Cruises.
Windstar’s vaccination policy, as well as its health and safety policy, may change if CDC guidelines change. Cruise Line will periodically review this policy in light of the evolving global health crisis.
Windstar Cruises has six small boutique-style ships and sailboats, each with a capacity of less than 350 guests. They have access to small, sought-after destinations that larger ships cannot reach because of their size.
The company plans to resume cruises in June 2021, with the first voyages operating with reduced or minimal occupancy and in some cases modified itineraries. The conditions for renewal are as follows:
- Star Breeze – 19. June in the Caribbean
- The Wind Star – 19. June in the Mediterranean
- Spirit of the Wind – 15. July in Tahiti
- Air lever – 8. August in the Mediterranean
- Stellar Legend – 4. September in Northern Europe
- The pride of the stars – 3. November in the Caribbean
