You can now redeem additional US miles to try out the Covid-19 at home.

American Airlines is now allowing AAdvantage members to redeem 12,000 miles for a Covid 19 home test.
Redemption must be done by phone (call AAdvantage customer service at 800-882-8880) and requires an active reservation with tickets from American Airlines inventory (ticket 001, if you travel on American Airlines with miles redeemed by British Airways, you are not eligible for the program).
Perhaps the airline is trying to limit the number of redemptions for its own customers, since it provides a penny per mile in travel value, rather than just being a source of Covid testing. However, the limitation is really permeable, as you only need to book American Airlines tickets and tickets for someone,
- The person whose miles are used for ransom need not be one of the travelers who
- And American told me that there is no user verification of the activated test kit against the passenger’s seatback. This is the same as if the customer had purchased the kit directly from LetsGetChecked for cash.
Only US residents are eligible for redemption, and this kit cannot be purchased and then packaged for use abroad – it must be used in the US before departure…. There is also a limit of 1 test per AAdvantage member for international routes and 2 tests per member for domestic routes.
American AAdvantage is not the first loyalty program in the US to offer miles for Covid programs. HawaiianMiles Hawaiian Airlines launched the program in November.
When Americans introduced the $129 home tests in December, they recommended ordering them 5 days in advance. For mileage reductions, they recommend ordering 10 days in advance, as AAdvantage customer service is only open Monday through Friday and the manual process can lead to concerns about delays.
